UNILATERAL APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING COMMITTEE
Welcome on behalf of the CAFSA Unilateral Apprenticeship Committee and the San Diego Sub-Committee!
The UAC is made up of (11) fire sprinkler contractors and people employed in our industry.
The San Diego Sub-Committee consists of (4) fire sprinkler contractors who are:
Jim Tate of JG Tate
David Sandage of Industrial Fire
John Gonsalves of A&D Fire
Lyle Hall of Western Fire Protection
Purpose of the UAC and the sub-committee is to:
Oversee the program
Ongoing improvement of the training curricula
Address any complaints and grievances (Process for filing grievances is in the Apprentice Program Orientation Guide)
The program is a California State approved five year apprenticeship that consists of 9,000 hours of on the job training combined with a two year performance based (classroom and testing) curricula. The average work hours per year are about 2,000 to 2,500 hours depending on how much overtime you work.
The study materials are divided into five books and the books are broken into modules.
The class sessions are made up of 21 along with six additional classes that cover your certifications such as Introduction and Orientation, Basic Safety and HazMat, First Aid, CPR, CPVC Pipe and Fork Lift certifications. The total required classes are 27+/- and are repeated approx every two years. If you miss a class you will not be able to take it again for another two years.
The classroom sessions are supplemented with instructional CDs/DVD and training tapes developed by the UAC.
Classes run from Sept to June and we take the summer off although testing is still offered during the summer months.
